Welcome to „The House of Thomas Henry“
I flew to Athens to join the event “The Clumsies American Dream Bar”. The Clumsies set up an impressive Pop Up bar with six bars from the east to the west coast of America. Now Berlin is coming up with a two-day event right in front of my door step. Thomas Henry presents the best of the bar culture under one roof at Kaufhaus Jandorf in Berlin called “The House of Thomas Henry”.
20 Europaen bars, the best drinks of 40 bartenders, a competition for the best drink, interesting expert workshops and all together celebrated in the flair of the Golden Twenties. A time when the world was growing closer and everywhere in Europe bars opened. It was an era of euphoria and enjoyment. Together with 20 premium spirit partners the historical building „Kaufhaus Jandorf“ will turn into a vibrant bar market. Newspaper boys hawk extra editions, street artists show off their skills, shoeshines stand by, and a real barber shop will round off the entertainment program. And music of course, with bands, ballerinas and burlesque dancing. At “The House of Thomas Henry”, the atmosphere sparkles in the style of the New Golden Age.
Kaufhaus Jandorf was erected in 1904 by businessman Adolf Jandorf in Berlin. The elaborate natural stone facade is a testimony of the architecture of this period. In the 20s the building became a department store (which means “Kaufhaus”). The building with five floors and a sales area of approximately 10,000 m² will serving beside drinks and entertainment some workshops held by experts such as Alex Kratena and Simon Difford.
It is a two-days event.
18th May is for Bar Experts, 19th May for Drink Lovers and at the end there will be a big Aftershow Party.
The first day is mainly aimed at the experts. There are exciting workshops planned where the scene exchange their knowledge about the current trends. Foodpairing, the art of barrel aging, fermentation, why is this stress thing so important, just to mention a few. The next day is for the drink lovers. So you can attend some basic training about your favourite spirit, what you need to prepare your own drink and some tipps & tricks for your own home-bar. The Golden Twenties also stand for tolerance and a respectful coexistence. Lavish parties such as “The House of Thomas Henry” are only possible if people are curious about one another and free of prejudice. Therefore, Thomas Henry supports „Gastronomie gegen Rassismus e.V.“. The Club donates funds to organizations that promote and enable the integration of immigrants and refugees with language courses. Thomas Henry is very committed to these issues and supports them gladly and wholeheartedly. www.ggr-ev.de
