Aviation Time – Let’s go “in the Pine”
Today it was time for the Aviation and time to go to Kolokotroni 9. I am not getting tired of praising this lovely drink that is anchored in the depths of my taste memory. I found the bartender sitting at the bar counter and gave him a big hug and some presents. He is a good mixture of bartender and booze buddy. Bartenders are humans by the way which also makes you feel home. Although he wasn’t in duty he prepared “In the Pine” with a smile in his face. The memory became alive and I enjoyed the taste. Behind the bar was Nikos today a rum addict and expert I would say. He tasted the Rum I brought and knew the islands and the distillery as well. That was very impressing but what was even more impressive was the love and passion how he explained the details. Every detail including the added sugar. Before I got a new drink from the menu a tiny G&T found its way to the bar counter. Lovely and refreshing rimmed with bergamot powder. Just right for the next drink based on Rum and Whiskey with some rhubarb, including oleo saccharum and some dashes of Peychaud Bitters. Okay, the first taste reminded me of pineapple which didn’t look very professional but I am a barstalker in the end. The drink tasted nice nevertheless.
It was already late when I moved on to Baba Au Rum for a final drink. I found the owner on my side of the bar and I had a tasteful „Dan Cunningham“ to keep up with Rum and Whiskey including some Portwine as well. I was totally satisfied with the whole day and happy. As they closed the roller shutter I noticed the graffities on them.
