Mute – bester Kaffee in Riga

Mute – bester Kaffee in Riga

That was the longest walk through the whole city up to the northeastern part. But it was worth it. Mute serves a delicious coffee and is recommended as the best coffee place in town. The space is a mix of coffee shop, restaurant and bar. If you enter the location you will receive a warm welcome by a good looking waitress, your ears are treated nicely and the atmosphere is a kind of modern wooden Scandinavian style. The shelf construction made of metal sticks is packed with nice wine bottles. The brownstone makes it even more comfortable. We took a seat at a counter in the window and relaxed our tired feet after our sightseeing trip. The service was so nice and she answered all my questions. We got a huge water carafe with the coffee and she also offered us the cocktail menu although it was early afternoon. I don’t follow rules designed by whomever not to drink alcohol before six o’clock or not to drink coffee after six o’clock and so on.

The cocktail menu is a nice list of six classics and four modern cocktails. The menu has been created by the former manager of London’s award-winning The Connaught Hotel Bar. There are many international guestshifts in this little bar. We ordered two drinks from the modern section. My drink of choice was the “Herbal Julep” because of the Black Balsam inside and my friend went for the “Clementine Sour”. The bar offers a small assortment of spirits. The first thing that I have noticed at the bars in Riga is the assortment of spirits. There are always the same mainstream spirits available and it seems like they are five years behind. The reason is clear: there is no demand and the prices with 8 Euros for a cocktail are fair.

The drinks totally fitted the occasion. Two girls on a lazy sunny afternoon with nice female jazz tunes in the background and some good looking light drinks. Cheers or in Latvian Priekā!

By the way the food looked very nice as well.
