Here is a tasty travel throwback from my visit to Mume in Taipei, ranked 34th in Asia by the World’s 50 Best Restaurants. @mume_taiwan is a must-visit for foodies seeking an unforgettable dining experience. Behind Mume’s culinary magic is Richie Lin, a Hong Kong native whose journey led him from Sydney’s Quay to Copenhagen’s Noma before settling in Taiwan. Lin’s international flair and love for Taiwanese ingredients shine through in every dish, blending minimalist Nordic-inspired presentation with the vibrant flavors of Taiwan. Named after Taiwan’s iconic plum blossom, Mume’s cuisine celebrates the island’s diverse terroir. My visit to Mume was a true culinary delight, accompanied by exquisite wine and cocktails. Traveling opens doors to unforgettable experiences, and Mume’s fine dining is a gift for the senses.

Dear reader, while I typically enjoy my evenings alone at the bar, dining solo presents a different yet equally intriguing experience. This particular evening at Eisenkopf exemplified the unexpected twists solo dining can bring, culminating in a comical mishap reminiscent of an elephant in a china shop. Passing by Eisenkopf’s window, its neon sign „Eisenkopf | Seasonal Devotion, Refining Fine Dining,“ along with the clear square dining room and open kitchen, caught my attention. Months later, I eagerly embarked on my „Dinner for One“. @eisenkopf.lpz is a refined dining destination offering an intimate setting with approximately 16 seats and a contemporary, minimalist Scandinavian design. It features upscale cuisine highlighting seasonal and regional ingredients, presented through a concise menu catering to both omnivores and vegetarians, guaranteeing a memorable culinary experience complemented by the perfect selection of wines.

Upon arrival, I was warmly greeted and chose a seat at the wall, offering both privacy and a view of the restaurant. However, my habit of checking cutlery and dishes was interrupted when the attentive host, almost unnoticed by me, filled my water vessel. Lost in thought, I turned the appealing ceramic cup to inspect it, inadvertently causing its contents to spill onto my table, phone, and even the chef’s notebook. Initially shocked, I couldn’t help but find amusement in the situation, especially considering how it must have appeared from the host’s perspective. Despite the embarrassment, Eisenkopf’s impeccable hospitality quickly alleviated my discomfort, with cloths promptly provided and kind words offered. Thank you @eisenkopf.lpz for the memorable evening filled with culinary delights and laughter. And a friendly reminder for further misadventure: be cautious with the bathroom’s water tap—I managed to create another mishap by turning the tap too forcefully, resulting in a drenched trouser mishap. Truly, I was the star of my own mishap comedy show that night.

In search of constantly new experiences, we often overlook places that impress with their consistency and quality. Nestled near Friedrichstrasse underground and railway station, Windhorst Bar is a well-established watering hole and one of my favourite bars in Berlin. Since 1999, Windhorst has been serving up fine cocktails that play with homemade ingredients, embodying creativity and hospitality. Crafted by owner Günter Windhorst, the drinks are subtly balanced and innovative, reflecting his passion for sustainability and quality. But it’s not just about the drinks – it’s the warm welcome and genuine connection between host and guest that sets Windhorst apart. Günter has dedicated a drink to me in his own recipe book, a riff on the Brandy Alexander. This is a tremendous honor for me, and I am deeply grateful. It’s not just a cocktail; it’s a symbol of our friendship, crafted with care and shared with love. I am truly touched by his gesture, and it fills me with immense joy and appreciation.
